Transit Hub on Library Road Pedestrian Mall
This project is a continuation of Library Road Improvement Work begun in 2000. The infrastructure improvements will be extended north from the Administrative Annex Building toward the bus transit hub at the intersection of Campus and Thatuna Streets. The improvements to the campus infrastructure in the area of Library Road will provide greater service capacity and a more pleasant environment. Phase III will enhance pedestrian movement by reducing regular vehicular traffic while maintaining service access and ADA parking areas. Phase III will allow the development of open space to include Murrow Yard and Terrell Mall -- open space that ties the campus together. Improved traffic circulation and pedestrian safety at the transit hub located at the intersection of Campus and Thatuna Streets will also be achieved.
A permanent modification to traffic routing will go into effect Monday (Aug. 17) near the center of the Washington State University campus. To see a map of the area click here. The change in traffic patterns, part of the final phase of the ongoing Library Road project, is being made in the area around the new transit hub at the intersection of Thatuna and Campus Street near the old Bookie building. The transit hub will provide an organized load and unload area and a turnaround spot for buses and other vehicles. The new traffic pattern will create a loop through the transit area.
The changes will improve safety and access around the new transit hub. "This is a busy area, used both by vehicles and pedestrians, so we want to alert people that this will be happening Monday,” said James Stone, construction engineer for Capital Planning and Development.
Stone said directional signage is being put in place at key locations around the transit hub to indicate what the changes will be.
The changes include:
